In this webinar Professor Don Wilson will present findings from research, , discussing current prevention strategies for pelvic floor disorders (PFD). In particular, the role of delivery factors, pelvic floor muscle training and modifiable risk factors.

Predicting the risk of PFD will be presented and the UR-CHOICE Risk Calculator will be demonstrated.

Finally, a pragmatic pelvic health pre and post birth care pathway for Aotearoa will be outlined.

Dr Fiona Bach, from the mini传媒入口 Aotearoa New Zealand Urogynae Working Group, will chair the webinar.

Presenters

Emeritus Professor, Otago University

Don Wilson was New Zealand鈥檚 first certified urogynaecologist (1999). Although he retired from clinical practice in 2021, he is still active in women鈥檚 health research.

Don is particularly interested in the epidemiology, prevention, prediction and conservative treatment for pelvic floor disorders. He has published over 130 peer reviewed journal articles, 8 book chapters and has authored and co-authored 13 major systematic reviews. He was a founding Editor of the Cochrane Urinary and Faecal Incontinence Review Group 1995-2013. Don was awarded the ONZM Honour this year for services to obstetrics and gynaecology.


Fiona鈥檚 undergraduate medical training was completed at the University of Leeds in Yorkshire, UK. She continued her training in Yorkshire before taking up a position at London鈥檚 St George鈥檚 Hospital. She then volunteered in Ethiopia for six months, supporting the training programme at the University of Gondar Hospital.

Fiona returned to the UK to undertake urogynaecology subspecialty training in Birmingham, before moving to New Zealand. She now works as an obstetrician and gynaecologist in 艑tautahi Christchurch and enjoys a balance between private and public working.

She is very involved with pelvic floor medicine and surgery in conjunction with mini传媒入口 to optomise standards of care for women affected by these conditions. Outside of clinical medicine, Fiona鈥檚 research interests focus on patient reported outcomes and she completed her MD research degree in this area.
